ACUPUNCTURE
Acupuncture has been effectively used for the treatment of back pain, headaches and sports injuries. Acupuncture has many benefits including pain relief, treating anxiety, insomnia and infertility.
The Traditional Chinese view is that injury or invasion of pathogens causes the harmonious flow of Qi to stagnate and pain or disharmony develops.
Acupuncture can free up this flow and restore a balanced state of health, it stimulates endorphin, serotonin and enkephalin release, our natural pain relieving chemicals and assists the body to return to a healthy state where Yin and Yang are rebalanced.
Acupuncture treats the cause of the imbalance rather than just the symptoms.
Greater Understanding
Recent advances in the understanding of pain neurophysiology and acupuncture mechanisms provide a scientific evidence base for Western acupuncture.
We use the same points as the Traditional Chinese system but they are selected using a modern medical understanding of anatomy, physiology and pathology.
Helping to relieve pain
Acupuncture is a treatment using very fine needles inserted into acupuncture points on the body that can relieve the symptoms of a number of physical and psychological conditions. Acupuncture helps the body to heal naturally.
The effects are cumulative and good results are frequently achieved when more conventional medicine has failed. Some patients will see immediate results while chronic conditions may take longer to treat.
There is nothing spiritual about acupuncture, you do not need to believe in it for it to be effective. Most feel more relaxed afterwards, calmer and clear. The only people who are frightened by acupuncture are those that have never experienced it.
Why choose a Physiotherapist?
Chartered Physiotherapists work in close conjunction with GP's, Consultants and other health care professionals. Those who practise Acupuncture have undergone a 3 or 4 year degree in Western medicine before embarking on Acupuncture training at post graduate level, in addition Guy Atkinson has undertaken training in Traditional Chinese Medicine at the Beijing Academy of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM).
Chartered Physiotherapists are bound by a strict professional and ethical code. The Acupuncture Association of Chartered Physiotherapists [AACP] requires its members to undergo a minimum of 80 hours Acupuncture training and has an additional strict code of practice.
You are therefore assured of safe and effective treatment with a member of the AACP.
